AFoCO RETC: Notice about the Coronavirus

20 Mar 2020

(as of 20 March 2020)

The outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus) has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).

As an international training center, the health and wellbeing of our training participants is a top priority at the AFoCO Regional Education and Training Center (RETC) in Myanmar. In line with the AFoCO RETC Prevention & Control Measures for the Coronavirus, we are taking relevant prevention and control measures to prepare for the possible spread of the virus and are ready to deal with any outbreak of cases.

The AFoCO RETC is currently well-stocked with an adequate supply of masks, hand sanitizers, and sterilization foggers. During meetings and lecture sessions, all training participants are expected to wear face masks and sanitize their hands during breaks. Temperature checks are administered to all participants upon arrival at the AFoCO RETC as well as at the start and end of every training day.

We are also in regular contact with the Waibargi Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yangon and have set up an isolated quarantine room within the premises to accommodate suspected cases.

At the moment, considering the progress of the coronavirus epidemic, all community development training courses and international training courses will be postponed for the safety of participants and staff involved. During this period, we wish to make all training participants and visitors to the AFoCO RETC aware of the following key advice and decisions:

  • Wear a face mask at all times
  • Wash hands regularly and thoroughly with soap
  • Practice good personal hygiene
  • Keep hands away from your face
  • Abstain from shaking hands in greeting
  • Observe coughing and sneezing etiquette (cover your mouth with a tissue paper or disposable handkerchief when coughing or sneezing and dispose of the waste tissue immediately)
  • Notify the RETC staff / seek medical attention promptly if you are feeling unwell
