Effective forest fire suppression in peatland areas requires specialized expertise to manage unique challenges, such as underground fire behavior, water management, and the use of GIS and remote sensing for fire detection and prevention.
In this regard, AFoCO Regional Education and Training Center (RETC), in collaboration with Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University and the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MOEFA), is pleased to invite Member Countries to the “Training of Trainers for Forest Fire Suppression in Peatland (TOTFFS),” scheduled for 21 April to 2 May 2025 in Bogor and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
This training, under AFoCO’s Forest Fire Management in Asia (FFMA) Initiative, builds on previous efforts to strengthen regional capacity in forest fire suppression, focusing on advanced technical knowledge, practical hands-on activities, and regional collaboration.
This program will target participants from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Timor-Leste, with each country encouraged to nominate three (3) participants.
Given that Indonesia is hosting the training, it may nominate up to ten (10) participants.
The countries are requested to STRICTLY FOLLOW the nomination criteria:
- Professional Experience: At least 5–10 years of field experience in forest fire suppression, with a proven track record in national forest agencies or related organizations.
- Relevance: Demonstrated alignment between the training and their current roles and responsibilities in fire management.
- Commitment: Willingness to share experiences, actively participate in discussions, and conduct domestic training sessions after the program.
- Health: Physical capability to participate in extended field activities related to peatland fire management.
