(CLOSED) Invitation to the 4th Training of Trainers on Forest Fire Suppression (TOTFFS)

Tropical forest ecosystems face increasing forest fire risks driven by climate change, land-use change, and growing pressure on natural resources. Addressing these challenges requires skilled practitioners who understand fire behavior, apply appropriate suppression tactics, and coordinate effectively in the field.

In this regard, AFoCO RETC, in collaboration with the Royal Forest Department (RFD) of Thailand, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MOEFA), and the Korea Forest Service (KFS), is pleased to invite Member Countries to the “4th Training of Trainers on Forest Fire Suppression (TOTFFS),” scheduled for 19 to 30 January 2026 in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand.

Organized under the FFMA Initiative, the training will include technical lectures, field-based exercises, and collaborative planning to strengthen practical suppression capacities. The program is open to Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam, with each country encouraged to nominate three (3) participants.

Given that Thailand is hosting the training, it may nominate up to ten (10) participants. English proficiency is not required, as the course is designed primarily for field-level practitioners.

The countries are requested to STRICTLY FOLLOW the nomination criteria:

◎ Health: Physical capability to participate in extended outdoor activities related to forest fire management.
◎ Professional Experience: At least 5–10 years of field experience in forest fire suppression, with a proven track record in national forest agencies or related organizations.
◎ Relevance: Demonstrated alignment between the training and the nominee’s current roles and responsibilities in forest fire management.
◎ Commitment: Willingness to share experiences, actively participate in discussions, and conduct domestic training sessions after the program.
◎ Eligibility: To expand opportunities for new practitioners, individuals who have previously taken part in international forest-fire-related trainings are not eligible.
