WORKING WITH THE ASIAN FOREST COOPERATION ORGANIZATION (AFOCO) AND VIETNAM ADMINISTRATION OF FORESTRY AT VIETNAM NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF FORESTRY

At the meeting, on behalf of AFoCO were: Mr. Sunpil Jin – Vice Executive Director of AFoCO; Dr. Kikang Bae  – Program officer, Development and evaluation team, cooperation and project division, AFoCO; Dr. Ho-Joong Youn – Senior researcher of National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS) in Korea, Dr. Lee Jeongho - botanical garden expert, project manager sponsored by the Republic of Korea. On the side of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, there were: Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien – Vice General Director of VNFOREST; Dr. Tran The Lien - Director of Science, Technology & International Cooperation Department, VNFOREST. On the side of VNUF, there were: Prof. Dr. Tran Van Chu – President of VNUF; Vice Presidents and leaders of relevant units.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Chu - President of VNUF warmly welcomed the representatives who visited and worked on the project of building the ASEAN - Korea Garden. The university believes that it will not only be an important symbol in cooperation between the two countries in general and the forestry industry in particular, but also be a center for cooperation on flora, biodiversity conservation and culture between Korea and ASEAN countries. The university will definitely give the best support for the project to be implemented smoothly, successfully and sustainably.

In the meeting, Mr. Sunpil Jin - Vice Executive Director of AFoCO briefly introduced the AFoCO organization and the project of ASEAN - Korea Garden. AFoCO aims to contribute to the global goals of increasing forest cover and implement following the Paris Agreement on climate change; and achieve common sustainable development and global/ regional forestry goals.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dien emphasized that this is an important project not only for biodiversity conservation but also for cooperation and cultural exchange between Korea and ASEAN countries in general, and Vietnam in specific. He also suggested some ideas for the university's project proposal.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Sam - Director of International Cooperation Division, VNUF presented the proposal for ​​the establishment of the ASEAN - Korea Garden in the campus. After the presentation, participants had fruitful discussions on the proposal.

In the program content, the delegates had a visit to the experimental forest of the university and the proposed site for the ASEAN - Korea Garden.

The meeting ended successfully, opening up many prospects for cooperation opportunities between the parties: VNUF, AFoCO and VNFOREST.
