First Session of the Assembly of Asian Forest Cooperation Organization

The First Session of the Assembly was successfully held on 12-13 November 2018 at Lotte Hotel World in Seoul, Korea. All Parties were present to make decisions to officially set up the framework of AFoCO. The signatory countries as well as observer countries were present to witness the significant event.

The Assembly endorsed necessary internal regulations and the strategic plan for the next five years and also appointed Mr. Chencho Norbu, as the Executive Director to start his term on 1 January 2019. It was also the venue to approve four cooperation projects in Bhutan, Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Viet Nam. The AFoCO projects will be implemented for 3 to 5 years with a total project budget of USD 2.3 million. The Assembly also endorsed the work plan and approved the budget for the next two years.

The next session is planned in April 2019 as a special session in Korea. The Secretariat will continue the implementation of the on-going project and further expand on new projects in the years to come in line with its strategic priorities.
