July 3, 2025 — AFoCO hosted a Climate Leaders Breakfast at the FKI Tower in Seoul, Republic of Korea. This event gathered from corporations, financial institutions, and NGOs to strengthen engagement under the Friends of Asia and Asian Forests (FAAF).
Opening Remarks and Participant Introduction
The Breakfast began with a warm welcome and introduction of participants by Dr. Tongil Kim, Director of AFoCO. Following this, Dr. Chongho Park, Executive Director of AFoCO, delivered opening remarks, highlighting the importance of collective action for forest-based climate solutions through public-private collaboration, and noted the growing momentum behind the FAAF initiative.
Breakfast and FAAF Progress Report
Over Breakfast, Mr. Sunpil Jin, Vice Executive Director of AFoCO, presented an overview of FAAF’s progress. He highlighted key achievements in expanding partnerships, promoting impact investment in forestry, and building a foundation for future cross-sector collaboration.
Special Lecture by Prof. Jong Ho Hong
Prof. Jong Ho Hong from Seoul National University delivered a lecture titled “Toward a Sustainable Korea in the Era of Climate Crisis and Carbon Neutrality.” He underscored the shifting global dynamics driven by the climate crisis and the pivotal role of Korea’s reforestation achievements.
Discussion: Voices from the Private Sector
The session continued with an open dialogue facilitated by Mr. Kookhyun Moon, Co-chair of FAAF. Participants shared insights into the challenges and opportunities within the climate finance ecosystem. They also exchanged views on their companies’ perspectives, ongoing efforts, and interests related to forest carbon. The discussion highlighted the growing role of the private sector in advancing climate finance and promoting sustainable forest solutions.
Closing
Mr. Moon delivered the closing remarks, encouraging continued engagement and collaboration through FAAF. The event concluded on a kind and friendly note with a group photo, marking the success of the gathering and reaffirming the participants’ shared commitment to sustainable forests in Asia.
