AFoCO reaches out to the diplomatic missions and institutions in Seoul

Guided by Decision 12-1-18R (development and strengthening external relations) and the first ministerial discourse (AFoCO membership), the AFoCO team led by its Executive Director made courtesy calls to the embassies/missions of Malaysia, Singapore, Mongolia, Laos, Thailand, and Timor-Leste in the first quarter of 2020 to share about and keep the diplomatic missions of Member Countries in Seoul well-informed and updated on the activities of AFoCO as well as future plans in the pipeline.

Courtesy visits were also made to the embassies of Norway and Germany to introduce AFoCO, and explore potential cooperation and partnership opportunities with their implementing agencies working forest sector on programs and projects related to reforestation and sustainable forest management in the region. Broadening AFoCO’s network beyond the region and reaching out to non-members is important to explore possibilities of partnership and collaboration through bilateral or multilateral platforms.

The Secretariat also renewed its MOU with the National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS) of the Republic of Korea. Capitalizing on the knowledge and expertise of Member Countries, AFoCO and its members will be able to benefit from the sharing of experiences and lessons learned in the region.
