AFoCO runs its 1st Global Forest Winter Camp

A journey of learning and adventure begins

Between February 12 to 15, the National Center for Forest Therapy was abuzz with more than 50 youths aged 9-16 who were participating in AFoCO’s 1st Global Forest Camp. The Camp was designed to raise awareness and enhance understanding of the importance of forest and provide opportunities to learn about international forest cooperation by engaging children in a variety of hands-on learning activities that foster creativity and teamwork.

AFoCO’s Global Forest Camps also aim to build emotional intelligence in children, and encourage respect for individual differences among people and cultures. One of the key activities was the Asian Cultural Event, which showcased the cultures and traditions of various AFoCO member countries and a traditional costume experience.

The most well-received activity was none other than the wood tray making activity! Under the guidance of expert instructors, participants learned how to work together to assemble the parts and pieces and customize their trays with the help of stencils and paints. After several hours of hard work, our young participants were rewarded with beautiful masterpieces. The activity not only developed creativity but also problem-solving and communication skills.

The Global Summer Camps will be held during the summer vacation in August this year. The 2019 Global Forest Camps are only open to children from multicultural families residing in the Republic of Korea.
