As an effort to combat climate change, the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), along with Gluri and the government of Cambodia, have come together to sign a Agreement on September 25, 2024. This agreement signifies a shared commitment to plant trees in Cambodia using Dipterocarpus spp and Shorea spp tree species.
AFoCO, as an intergovernmental organization dedicated to fostering sustainable forestry practices, aims to actively facilitate reforestation and afforestation initiatives within its member countries. One notable partnership in this endeavor is with GLURI, a social technology practitioner renowned for promoting climate solutions through innovative information and communication applications such as their FORESTEP Program. By harnessing technological advancements, GLURI endeavors to cultivate forests, pave the way for a sustainable future, and reduce carbon footprints.
The signing of the Agreement represents a significant milestone in the collective commitment to environmental conservation and climate action. With an agreed investment of 5 million won to plant 235 trees in Cambodia by 2024, all parties involved – including Dr. Tongil Kim representing AFoCO, Mr. Bun Radar representing the Cambodian government, and Mr. Seonghyun Lee representing GLURI – are confident that this plantation activity will be successful.
This collaborative effort not only underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable development goals but also serves as a testament to the proactive measures being taken to address pressing environmental challenges. The plantation project in Cambodia stands as a beacon of hope, showcasing the power of unity and collective action in safeguarding our planet for present and future generations.
