Since its inception in 2014, the AFoCO Landmark Scholarship Program has been a vital pillar of AFoCO’s mission to build capacity in sustainable forestry and environmental stewardship across Asia. In partnership with esteemed universities in the Republic of Korea, the program has provided advanced educational opportunities for 30 government officials from ASEAN Member States, equipping them with the expertise to tackle critical forestry and environmental challenges in their home countries.
Scholars from 7 countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam have deepened their understanding of forestry, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. With the support of their professors, they have not only excelled academically but have also conducted innovative research that contributes directly to sustainable forestry practices.
The achievements of these scholars reflect AFoCO’s commitment to empowering future leaders. They now play crucial roles in their respective governments, contributing to policy development, forest restoration, and community-based conservation projects. This publication celebrates a decade of their hard work and dedication, highlighting the progress they have made toward sustainable forest management and resilience in Asia.
AFoCO looks to the future, the Landmark Scholarship Program will continue expanding its reach and impact, welcoming new scholars and fostering the next generation of environmental leaders. Together, we are creating a legacy of knowledge, collaboration, and sustainable progress that will benefit forests and communities for generations to come.
