Inception Meeting for AFoCO-NIFoS project in Viet Nam

Consistent with the areas of cooperation under the MoU between the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and the National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS) of the Republic of Korea, the Secretariat has been working closely with the NIFoS researcher to sustain the development and implementation of joint research projects with AFoCO member countries. Under the 2021 call for research projects, Viet Nam was selected to carry out a project on ‘Research on Forest Enrichment using High Valuable Native Species in Hoa Binh Province, Viet Nam‘ and procedures for the inception of the project are underway.

The online Inception Meeting for the project between the AFoCO Secretariat and the Forest Science Center of North-eastern Viet Nam (FSNE), the Implementing Agency of the project, was held on June 21, 2021. The meeting was attended by 18 participants from the Secretariat, FSNE, and NIFoS.

The meeting discussed and approved the AFoCO-NIFoS project management system and the overall work plan and budget of the project, particularly for year 2021. Issues such as the impact of the COVID–19 pandemic on the project activities were also discussed. During the meeting, NIFoS informed that they will assign technical experts to monitor the project and ensure that it is implemented effectively to achieve the project goals as planned.

Mr. Orlando Panganiban, Director of the Cooperation and Project Division of the Secretariat, welcomed all participants to the meeting. He highlighted that through collective efforts and the commitment of all project stakeholders, stronger partnerships will be forged between the AFoCO and Viet Nam.

On behalf of the Viet Nam side, Mr. Luu Tien Dat, National Focal Point of AFoCO, expressed his sincere thanks to the AFoCO Secretariat and NIFoS for their support and guidance in the implementation of the research project.
