MoU for new AFoCO project inked with Land Development Department of Thailand

January 19, 2023 — The MoU signing ceremony for the implementation of the AFoCO project entitledImproving local community’s livelihoods and engagement in sustainable forest and land management in Thailand through Forest Landscape Restoration (AFoCO/030/2022)” was organized in Bangkok, Thailand. The ceremony took place during the AFoCO Regional Workshop on CBNE Development.

The ceremony was attended by six participants from Thailand, including Mr. Satira Udomsri, Director of the Soil Resources Survey and Research Division (who attended the MoU signing ceremony on behalf of Mr. Pramote Yajai, the Director General of the Land Development Department) and two participants from AFoCO — Mr. Orlando Panganiban, Director of the Project and Program Division and Ms. Ji Yea Cha, Assistant Program Officer of the Project and Program Division.

Mr. Preecha Ongprasert, AFoCO National Focal Point of Thailand, expressed his pleasure in launching the project, which is also the sixth AFoCO project in Thailand and the first individual project to be implemented, with one more research project in Thailand waiting to be approved soon within this year. He hoped this project would be the first of many AFoCO projects in Thailand to follow in the near future.

Mr. Orlando Panganiban, Director of the Project and Program Division of the AFoCO Secretariat, briefly introduced the next steps for project implementation regarding the project inception meetings, forming the Project Steering Committee (PSC) to be followed by the first PSC meeting to begin project implementation. The Implementing Agency (IA) will proceed with the preparation for preparing for the project inception in due course to ensure that the project can begin within the first quarter of 2023.
