Celebrating 2024 International Day of Forests with the Diplomatic Missions in Seoul

March 21, 2024 – AFoCO Secretariat in collaboration with the Korea Forest Service and the National Institute of Forest Science, celebrated the 2024 International Day of Forests. Ambassadors and representatives from the diplomatic missions of AFoCO Parties and Observers, and potential partner countries joined the commemoration.

This year’s International Day of Forests was celebrated under the theme of “Forests and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World.”

In line with the theme, the ceremony provided an opportunity to share and introduce the works and efforts of the AFoCO in the region. Korea’s state-of-art forest sector technologies and relevant forest policies were introduced. Innovative solutions and applications in Korea’s forest management was highlighted through demonstration of forest digital twin, and exhibitions on advanced forest fire suppression and response system, timber construction for carbon neutrality, and agro-forestry satellites for forest management.   

The participants shared common views and reiterated the significance of forest on the national, regional and global level in socio-economic development and addressing climate challenges.
