About the UN Decade
Launched on 5 June 2021, the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (UN Decade) aims to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and in every ocean. The overarching vision for the UN Decade is a world where – for the health and well-being of all life on Earth and that of future generations – the relationship between humans and nature has been restored, where the area of healthy ecosystems is increasing, and where ecosystem loss, fragmentation and degradation has been ended. Underpinning this vision are three main goals:
- Enhancing global, regional, national and local commitments and actions to prevent, halt and reverse the
degradation of ecosystems; - Increasing our understanding of the multiple benefits of successful ecosystem restoration; and
- Applying this knowledge in our education systems and within all public and private sector decision-making.
AFoCO joins the global movement
We are proud to announce that AFoCO is an official partner of the UN Decade, and will be supporting the implementation of its activities to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through large-scale restoration across ecosystems. As a Supporting Partner of the UN Decade, AFoCO will work to build evidence-based recommendations, contribute to strengthening restoration capacities, support the UN Decade Monitoring Task Force, and play a part in coordinating UN Decade’s initiatives within our fields of expertise. As part of #GenerationRestoration, we look forward to playing an active role in strengthening restoration efforts together with #UNEP and #FAO.
