The Korea Forest Service and AFoCO donated 4 forest fire vehicles and 24 computer sets to the Forest Department of Myanmar to promote forestry education and contribute to improving the management of forest disasters in Myanmar through the utilization of advanced technology and equipment.
This provision of vehicles and computers was commemorated in a Donation Ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on 12 September 2019. The ceremony was attended by a total of 50 participants including Dr. Kim Jae Hyun, the Minister of the Korea Forest Service, Mr. Khin Maung Yi, honorable Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, and Mr. Chencho Norbu, the Executive Director of AFoCO.
“Korea-Myanmar forestry cooperation began some 20 years ago in 1999 when the Korea-Myanmar Forestry Cooperative Committee was formulated. The KFS will continue to work together with both the Myanmar government and AFoCO in the fields of reforestation and forest disaster management,” says Dr. Kim Jae Hyun, Minister of the Korea Forest Service.
Mr. Chencho Norbu further stated that “The RETC was established in 2018 and training courses for capacity building of member countries have been conducted since 2018. This donation marks a milestone in the collaboration among the Forest Department, AFoCO and the Korea Forest Service. It will support the Myanmar government in managing forest disasters systematically.”
This donation is symbolic of AFoCO’s commitment to fostering closer cooperation with the Myanmar government to deal with issues in the forestry sector, especially in the management of forest disasters.
