What is the AFoCO Mangrove initiative?
The AFoCO Mangrove Initiative, launching in 2026 under AFoCO’s Strategic Plan (2024–2030) and Climate Action Plan (2025–2034), is a strategic regional program advancing coastal ecosystem recovery and climate resilience across Asia. Integrating policy, science, finance, and community action, it promotes large-scale mangrove restoration across Member Countries while linking land–sea conservation efforts.
Guided by a dedicated Working Group and supported by GIS-based MRV systems, the Initiative ensures coordinated and phased implementation to strengthen ecological stability, enhance carbon capture, and improve shoreline protection. It also fosters innovation through collaboration with local communities and academic institutions, connects restoration with sustainable livelihood opportunities such as eco-tourism and fisheries management, and elevates the recognition of mangroves’ vital role in biodiversity conservation and climate policy frameworks.
Assessment → Pilot Implementation → Regional Scaling
