REDD+ Readiness

What is the AFoCO REDD+ Readiness initiative?

The AFoCO REDD+ Readiness Initiative helps Member Countries turn REDD+ commitments into real, on-the-ground action. It supports the full implementation of the UNFCCC Warsaw Framework by assisting countries in developing national REDD+ strategies, strengthening forest monitoring systems and reference emission levels, and establishing safeguard information systems—while promoting sustainable forest management and contributing to global climate goals.

Through strong partnerships, resource mobilization, and targeted technical and policy support, the Initiative builds institutional and human capacity and facilitates technology development and transfer. By helping countries complete the readiness phase, unlock results-based payments, and participate in cooperative approaches under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, it enables them to meet their NDC targets while fostering resilient forests and sustainable livelihoods for forest-dependent communities.

The AFoCO REDD+ Fact sheet series aims to provide data and information on the forest-based climate actions of AFoCO’s member countries. Each fact sheet provides an overview of the country’s forest area, forest-based mitigation and adaptation targets in the NDCs, progress on national REDD+ initiatives, and REDD+ initiatives and projects to secure result-based payments or voluntary carbon credits.
