AFoCO at COP30: Join Us for Key Forest Pavilion Events and Collaborative Discussions
The 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) will be held in Belém, Brazil, focusing on stronger NDCs, the Baku–Belém Roadmap on climate finance, and advancing global action on mitigation, adaptation, and loss and damage.
Forests remain one of the most effective yet underfunded solutions to the climate crisis. Despite their vital role in storing carbon and supporting livelihoods, financing for forest and community-based initiatives still falls far short of what’s needed. While ODA has been essential in the early stages, scaling impact now requires broader, blended sources of climate finance.
As the only intergovernmental organization dedicated exclusively to forests in Asia, the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) is uniquely positioned to bridge this gap. Through its strong government-to-government partnerships, proven track record in implementing grant-based projects, and community-centered approach, AFoCO offers the legitimacy, technical expertise, and stability that investors and partners seek.
Building on its Climate–Forest Cooperation Framework (2025–2034), AFoCO has pioneered a blended finance approach that strategically combines ODA, multilateral development finance, and private capital. This model not only de-risks investments but also ensures that carbon projects deliver measurable co-benefits for local communities and contribute to national climate commitments.
At COP30, AFoCO will organize a side event to highlight its role as a connector between governments, multilateral development banks (MDBs), and private investors, and to showcase its innovative approach to community-based carbon and forest programs.
In a year when the world is seeking scalable and inclusive solutions to close the climate finance gap, AFoCO’s initiative exemplifies how linking public, multilateral, and private finance can unlock the full potential of forests as nature-based solutions—while ensuring that local communities remain at the heart of climate action.
