Goals & Objectives of the Project
Contribute in combatting deforestation in Kyrgyz Republic including enhancement of capacities of respective Forestry Agencies and environmental and socio-economic benefits for forest stakeholders
Main Activities
Objective 1: To prepare technical documents and guidelines for the establishment of improved seed storage
- Develop a detailed design and estimation for the establishment of the seed storage facility
Objective 2: To establish and prepare the operationalization of the seed storage
- Establish seed storage with a capacity of 25 tons to be stored (3-5 tons in Chuv region; 17-20 tons in Jalal-abad region)
Objective 3: To conduct national and regional capacity building and research activities on the establishment and management of the seed storage
- Conduct trainings for local forestry workers
- Develop a short-term breeding program, including the development of seed sources, selection of trees, and the creation of an area for plus trees and genetic testing
Expected Outputs
- Technical documents and guideilnes established for the seed storage developed and prepared
- Improved seed storage is established with necessary equipment and functions
- Knowledge and skills of local forestry officers, communities, and other international stakeholders are enhanced on the topic of seed collection and seed storage
