AFoCO Participates in World Bank’s KGID 2026 to Share Forest-Based Green Growth Solutions

Sejong, Republic of Korea – 6~8 May 2026 — The Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) participated in the 15th Korea Green Innovation Days (KGID 2026), held from 6–8 May 2026 in Sejong, Republic of Korea. Organized as the flagship annual event of the Korea Green Growth Trust Fund (KGGTF), this year’s forum convened policymakers, development practitioners, international organizations, and private sector partners under the theme “Learning from Korea: Scaling Green Growth for Global Impact.”

Representing the forest sector as an invited speaker in the Environmental Session, Dr. Kikang Bae, Team Leader of the Strategic Planning Team at AFoCO, introduced AFoCO’s ongoing cooperation with the World Bank and KGGTF to advance climate-resilient forest and landscape restoration initiatives across Asia.

During the session, AFoCO highlighted its ongoing Mongolia project supported through KGGTF, which aims to strengthen Mongolia’s large-scale forest landscape restoration efforts under the Billion Tree National Movement. The presentation introduced AFoCO’s work on developing methodologies and tools to estimate carbon sequestration potential and support the design of investable restoration models that can mobilize both public and private financing for sustainable land restoration.

AFoCO also shared its regional capacity-building initiatives on forest fire management, including training and knowledge exchange programs hosted in the Republic of Korea for government officials from Türkiye and India. These programs provided opportunities for participants to learn from Korea’s experiences in wildfire prevention, early warning systems, ICT-based fire management, and inter-agency coordination mechanisms.

KGID 2026 emphasized the importance of translating policy ambition into practical implementation through partnerships, innovation, and scalable financing mechanisms. Throughout the event, participants exchanged experiences on how Korea’s development model—including strong institutions, digital innovation, and public-private collaboration—can contribute to global green growth efforts.

As a regional intergovernmental organization dedicated to sustainable forest management and climate action, AFoCO reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with development institutions, governments, and the private sector to promote resilient landscapes and forest-based climate solutions across Asia.
