Mongolia’s forestry sector is gradually shifting toward a more restoration- and climate-resilience-oriented management approach, as forests play a critical role in combating desertification, protecting water resources, and maintaining ecosystem stability in fragile dryland environments. Despite relatively low forest cover, increasing land degradation, desertification, and climate pressures are shaping national forestry priorities. In response, the government launched the One Billion Trees National Movement, aiming to expand forest cover and restore degraded landscapes, reflecting a broader national strategy to strengthen landscape resilience, climate adaptation, and long-term ecological sustainability.
